Medical Mission Trip to Jeannette
|
From February 6th-11th, a medical mission group, led by nurse Nancy Frana, traveled to Haiti to care for our brothers and sisters in Jeannette and Bondeau.
The group was able to see hundreds of patients and give eye exams to the students pre-screened by their teachers as having problems. Thanks to the generosity of the Wisconsin Lions Foundation, many of those in need of eyeglasses received a pair during this trip.

Lenten Calendar and Bishop's Lenten Appeal
|
Bishop Miller recently sent out a letter to the Diocese regarding a Lenten Appeal to support our brothers and sisters in Haiti in “their efforts to rise, stand and walk.” THe following is an exerpt from Bishop Miller's letter and describes one of several ways to do this: |
 |
"This year we celebrate 25 years of partnership with the parish of St. Marc and the community of Jeanette. Lenten calendars and bulletin inserts are available at the website at www.haitiproject.org. I encourage you to designate the ingathering from a Sunday in Lent or work with the Project Coordinator to participate in other creative fund-raising options. One way we can do this is to support the Diocese of Milwaukee Haiti Project Annual Appeal as we celebrate 25 years of partnership with the parish of St. Marc and the community of Jeanette."

January Steering Committee Meeting
On Saturday, January 22, 2011, the Steering Committee met at St. Mary’s, Dousman for its first meeting of 2011.
In attendance were Ann Brophy, Steve Smith, Jim Brown, Mary Alice Eschweiler, Mel Stewart, Hannah Brown, and Elizabeth van der Weide.
Following approval of the previous meeting’s minutes and the treasurer’s report, the Steering Committee reviewed the projects completed in 2010 and the goals for both St. Marc’s and the Haiti Project in 2011. Projects discussed included the trade school building and summer program as well as infrastructure repairs to the campus. Goals discussed include the Haiti Project’s need to work on fundraising to support community-based projects in Jeannette such as Implementation of the banque agricole and St. Marc’s for-profit businesses. Trip planning and organization of the Haiti Project to most effectively support Jeannette in achieving its goals were also discussed.
A meeting of the whole is being planned to present this to the group.
The next Steering Committee meeting is planned for June.
For more information or a draft copy of the minutes, contact Elizabeth van der Weide at elizabeth@haitiproject.org. |

It's the dry season in Haiti...the rain doesn't fall and the crops don't grow. Consider sponsoring a child at St. Marc's...your donation provides not only education, but nutritious food during this time of need.
