Meet Pat Benson
-
Long-time Sponsor
By
Nancy Frana
Pat Benson is
a faithful sponsor!
She sends many
letters and cards
to her young
partner Macouse
in Jeannette
– even
though they don’t
have means to
respond. They
do however know
who you are!
On our trip this
year, I found
Macouse’s
home and brought
back some pictures
for Pat. When
we stopped to
greet them, they
were very excited!
They stood proudly
in front of their
meager block
home for pictures.
They sent a big
“Thank
you” home
for Pat.

one
for them. It
was very emotional
for us all. In
our world we
see people give
from their excess;
in Haiti we see
people give when
sometimes they
have little left
for themselves.
What a blessing
to see…and
what a lesson
to learn.

Bishop
Miller Requests
Help during Food
Crisis
With months of
no rain, food
prices rising,
Haiti's poorest
can't afford
even a daily
plate of rice.
On Bishop Miller's
first trip to
Haiti last January,
he saw first-hand
the pervasive
hunger and has
initiated a dioceses-wide
emergency food
drive. Because
of the hunger,
the Haiti Project
has begun a temporary
lunch program
at St. Marc's
School. For just
10 cents, a child
can eat a healthy
lunch of mamba
-- a peanut butter
sandwich with
juice. The bread
comes from the
local bakery
in Jeannette.
We need
your help:
for just $60
you can feed
ALL the school
children for
a day. You can

February
Trip Report
By
Nancy Frana
A group of 7
traveled to Haiti
at the end of
February this
year: Mark, Nancy
and Marcus Frana,
Patti, John and
Tyler Brusky
and Steven Vuckovich.
It was Tyler’s
and Steven’s
first trip to
Haiti. For this
reason, we planned
for them to see
and do many things
to experience
the culture and
learn about the
people. In Port
au Prince we
stayed in a Boy’s
Home, visited
a home for disabled
children and
an orphanage.
In Jeannette,
photos of school
children were
taken for sponsors
to receive at
renewal time.
The children,
like adults in
Haiti, often
do not smile
for pictures!
However as soon
as the picture
was taken, off
they went grinning
ear to ear!
Work was done
on rodent-proofing
the medical clinic
and other carpentry
projects for
the presbyter
completed. Dr.
John Brusky traveled
to Mirogoane
to explore the
local public
hospital and
its services.
We also had time
for fun showing
Jeannette’s
first “outdoor
movie”,
and then having
2 more movie
nights in the
church! We enjoyed
walking in the
community visiting
friends and checking
on the water
purification
project being
used in most
of the homes
in Jeannette.
Not a trip goes
by without learning
new lessons about
how God works
in the world.
For this we are
always grateful.
